Drilldowns
Overview
Section titled “Overview”Drilldowns let users move from a supported chart-series point, bar, or segment into more detail. A STAT card has a separate whole-card action that opens all rows when its source can be resolved. Table rows and alert cards do not start this chart-drill workflow in the documented build.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”A chart click resolves the clicked value and source context, then opens a menu. The entries depend on the catalog and widget configuration: Drill into rows, configured Drill down or Drill through targets, and Drill by… when a reachable dimension exists. A matching configured dashboard filter can also appear as a filter shortcut. When the click resolves but no destination is available, the menu says No drill destinations available.
A source-resolvable STAT card opens all rows directly instead of showing this chart-click menu. Drill detail uses the same environment, tenant, and governed catalog context as the dashboard.
Step-by-step
Section titled “Step-by-step”- Open a dashboard containing a chart with rendered data.
- Click a supported series point, bar, or segment.
- Choose an available menu action such as Drill into rows, Drill by…, or a configured drill target.
- If the menu says No drill destinations available, choose another source-resolvable chart point or have an author configure a target.
- Inspect the result. Use the drill overlay’s Back, dashboard breadcrumb, close, or Esc control to return.
For a source-resolvable STAT card, click the card itself to open all rows.
Common mistakes
Section titled “Common mistakes”Do not use drilldowns as a replacement for good dashboard design. The main dashboard should still show the most important signal.
Do not assume a drilldown has different data permissions. It follows the same environment, tenant, and data access context.
Do not expect a table-row click or an alert card to open this workflow in this build.
